The introduction of Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg in MLB odds was basically outstanding. He was greater than a 2-1 favorite in baseball odds vs the Pirates in his Major League introduction and he delivered with an amazing performance as he struck out 14 batters in a 5-2 victory.

Strasburg is one of those sporting rarities. He is a rookie player who’s even better than the buzz. He has always, far apart from any other player this year, impacted ticket sales and TV schedules.

Strasburg is going to be preferred by MLB odds on a regular basis in the future. Just how great Strasburg was in his introduction is difficult to overhype. He was basically overpowering. The sportsbooks made Strasburg greater than a 2-1 favorite, and they knew that the washington nationals would get lots of interest. Look for those forms of prices in the future, though not quite as high on the road.

Strasburg struck out 14 batters in his introduction and that’s the highest number since J.R. Richard struck out 15 in his introduction in 1971 for Houston. He was achieving 100 mph with his fastball and his breaking ball was amazing. He granted 2 runs, 4 hits and no walks. Strasburg is the 1st pitcher in Major League Baseball history to have no less than 11 strikeouts and no walks in a introduction.

Future Hall of Fame catcher Ivan Rodriguez, who was catching him, was blown away. That’s how great Strasburg was. Adam Dunn said it was the best game he had ever seen pitched. Opposing batters basically could not do anything vs him. With 14 strikeouts, Strasburg tied Detroit’s Max Scherzer for the highest number of strikeouts in any game this year. And Strasburg did it in his big league introduction.

His talent for throwing a baseball 100 miles per hour is at least in part responsible for the appeal of Strasburg. Even his curveball zips at 82 miles per hour. There isn’t any subtlety involved in terms of Strasburg’s skill. You can see it plainly when he uses his long, whip-like arms to throw the ball with accuracy and speed every time he is pitching.

Moreover you can find by now restaurants naming hamburgers after him – Strasburgers.

The Washington Nationals were even selling standing room only tickets, after selling out Strasburg’s debut. And this was vs the Pirates who do not bring in any fans. Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman asserted he had never seen anything like it. Strasburg threw 65 strikes out of a total of 94 pitches. He made one error, a changeup that Delwyn Young hit into the right field seats for a two-run homer.

Strasburg’s Major League introduction came a year after he was drafted number one in total by the washington nationals. He easily could have started the season in the Major Leagues but Washington wanted to break him in slowly so they started him in the minors where he went 7-2 with a 1.30 ERA, 65 strikeouts and only 13 walks. Get ready for Strasburg mania the remainder of the season and watch for the odds on him to be high when he goes to the mound.
