This past Wednesday in a match that was aired on ESPN, Chile was expected to defeat Honduras in World Cup soccer betting.

Chile competes in a group that contains Spain but they have the capability to move forward from Group H since they are capable of routing Honduras and Switzerland in World Cup odds at the sportsbooks.

World Cup gambling odds posted Chile as a one-goal favorite on Wednesday vs Honduras with a total of 2.5 under. The three-way line has Chile at -170, Honduras at +480 and the draw at +260. This will be the eighth World Cup appearance for Chile. Marcelo Bielsa, the team’s coach, has headed the team to their first World Cup in 12 years. He will have his team all set and ready to strike from the moment the match kicks off. Chile’s top scorer in qualifying was Humberto Suazo who had 10 goals in 18 matches. Matias Fernandez and Alexis Sanchez are a few other skilled competitors on the team. Chile is going beneath the radar with a lot of people but they have some capability and might even give Spain a run for the top spot in Group H.

Honduras is making only their 2nd showing in the World Cup and it looks to be a short 1. Their only hope of gaining a point appears to be the match with Switzerland since they don’t match up well with Chile or Spain. It seems improbable they can meet the scoring ability of Chile or Spain. Honduras will require David Suazo to play pretty well for them to have any possibility. Carlos Pavon was the top scorer in qualifying as he had 7 goals. Honduras is well coached by Reinaldo Rueda but it does not seem like they have the expertise to compete with either Spain or Chile. Suazo and Pavon are excellent competitors and Wilson Palacios is a superb midfielder and Georgie Welcome can score the rare goal but overall, Honduras just does not have the depth of a lot of other teams in the World Cup.

Winning this match in World Cup odds shouldn’t have been too hard for Chile as long as they do not disregard Honduras. That shouldn’t have been an issue since this is their first match in Group H.

Chile’s Jean Beausejour scored the team’s sole goal when they beat Honduras 1-0 in Wednesday’s match. It was the first World Cup victory for Chile since they hosted the championship in 1962. The successful goal came in minute 34 of the match.

In spite of their win, Chile’s coach Marcelo Bielsa was unfulfilled. He strongly felt that the team might have made more goals vs Honduras. The team came close to doubling its lead with another goal several times during the match, in fact. Nonetheless Honduras, for their part, had a pretty outstanding goalie in Noel Valladares who made more than 1 great save. However Honduras’ only real possibility came from a free kick in first-half injury time by midfielder Ramon Nunez. That was tipped over the net by Chile goalie Claudio Bravo.
