Shane Carwin is an imposing person and there are few folks who would have the guts to get into the Octagon with him in the forthcoming UFC 116 betting competition at the sportsbook.

Brock Lesnar is another substantial and scary person and will be the man to take on off with Carwin in the forthcoming UFC 116 odds Main Event. MMA betting enthusiasts and many UFC 116 odds makers are split as to who will win this matchup between these 2 great contenders.

Carwin has more history in MMA betting than Lesnar and many folks point to his perfect 12-0 record in MMA betting competition as cause to think that he’ll also be triumphant in the UFC 116 betting competition as well. Not only is his total record much more extensive, it’s also better than Lesnar’s (4-1), and that experience will be priceless in the UFC 116 betting competition.

But there are a few questions relating to a closer examination of Carwin’s record, too. No one questions that Carwin is a fantastic MMA fighter, but if you look over his UFC betting record there aren’t a whole lot of major names on his list of beaten fighters.

Frank Mir is probably the biggest name and most gifted UFC betting fighter that Carwin has fought before. And that was his most recent fight. There have been a lot of UFC betting enthusiasts that thought Mir would get the better of Carwin going into that fight. Needless to say, Carwin won by knocking Mir out.

But if you look down the rest of Carwin’s defeated foes in the run up to the UFC 116 odds Main Event, there is hardly a recognizable name among them. Neil Wain? Gabriel Gonzga? Christian Wellisch? These fighters are nowhere near the same level as Lesnar and hardly UFC betting champs.

Lesnar, for his part has only a quite short body of MMA betting work going into the UFC 116 betting competition. But that quick resume does include victories over former champs Randy Couture and Mir.

Carwin also has a history before the UFC. He began his career as a pro wrestler. He wrestled in college and became a two-time NCAA Division II Wrestling National Runner-Up Heavyweight. He was the National Champ in 1999. On top of that he played football for Western State and as a 2-time All-American. Even now he’s at the University of Colorado as a volunteer wrestling coach.

In mixed martial arts, Carwin won his first eight competitions by first round stoppage before joining the UFC. He progressed to the Ring of Fire heavyweight champion. His UFC debut was on the undercard of UFC 84, where he fought versus Christian Wellisch. Though Wellisch isn’t really well known now, the fight itself was fairly extraordinary. Carwin showed his punching ability by not only knocking him out at 44 seconds in the first round, he also sent Wellisch’s mouthpiece flying across the Octagon.

Hard to claim who will win the forthcoming UFC 116 betting competition, but enthusiasts should not take either of these fighters’ imperfect records too seriously.
