This has been a very interesting season for golf wagering at the online sportsbook and if the final two Majors of the season show to be even half as exciting as the Masters and the US Open Champion wagering then sports wagering enthusiasts do not want to miss out.
After Phil Mickelson’s awesome finish at Augusta and now Graeme McDowell’s spectacular finish on top of the US Open champ probabilities the only certainty in the golf wagering to date this in the Majors has been uncertainty.
The British Open is just around the corner and Players Championship in August and that leaves a lot of time for McDowell to enjoy his Open championship wagering victory – his 1st Major ever. It was a terrific performance on a very tough course with conditions continuously worsening as the final round played out. The wind at Pebble Beach is notoriously fickle and on Sunday, the final day of the Open Championship probabilities contest it reared its unpleasant head.
And while others in the field including the top two golfers (Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson) in the world had trouble to close the tournament, McDowell was calm and collected as he played out the final 18 holes and entered the club house as the 2010 US Open champ wagering winner. McDowell earned the US Open by 1 stroke. He became the 1st European to win the US Open since Tony Jacklin in 1970. Since Andy North in 1985, his last round was the top score by a US Open champ.
The breeze presented little issue for McDowell, A native of the windy north coast of Ireland, or at least he handled the challenge much much better than the remainder of the golf wagering field. Scores grew on the final day of event and no golfer concluded the golf wagering Major under par. McDowell came up closest with a 4-round total score of Even Par after a final round of 74.
For all intents and purposes the final round did not deliver, though Sunday was set up for a very spectacular finish and crowning of the new US Open Championship wagering winner. In a group on top of the leader board that consisted of heavyweights like Woods, Mickelson and Ernie Els, none of these huge name participants challenged and McDowell basically went out and played more or less mistake free golf on his way to lifting the trophy.
Woods was positiioned to end 6 months of bad publicity over a broken personal life. But then he bogeyed five of his 1st 10 holes and took himself out of contention with a 75.
Els had a short share of the lead on the front nine but came apart along the coastal holes – which includes 1 stretch of bogey-double bogey-bogey – and never really rebounded.
Mickelson, with another great chance to end a career of disappointment at the US Open, evened up for fourth with Woods, missing a chance to supplant Woods at No 1 in the world.
Frenchman Greg Havret came out of nowhere to complete second at +1, Els 3rd at +2 and Woods and Mickelson both concluded +3 in the US Open champ probabilities competition.
