Andy Roddick made major news last year with his legendary loss to Roger Federer in the final at Wimbledon but his results will not be duplicated this year as he lost in the fourth round versus the sports book tennis betting odds.

It was a sports book betting shocker as Roddick lost to Yen-Hsun Lu who is the 82nd ranked player on earth. Lu is a Taiwanese player who hadn’t won a match at the All England Club the previous four years.

Sports book odds heavily favored Roddick in this match but as he has throughout his career, Roddick let everyone down. In a match that lasted more than four and a half hours he lost 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-7, 9-7. Lu won the 5th set by breaking Roddick for the sole time in the match. Lu was not supposed to even offer a struggle to Roddick. Lu made it to the fourth round this year and upset the heavily favored Roddick versus sports book odds after he lost in the first round at Wimbledon four straight times. He’s the first Asian man to attain the quarterfinals since Shuzo Matsuoka of Japan in 1995. The match was all about serve between Roddick and Lu. Lu had 22 aces while Roddick had 38. Lu was only 2-10 before Monday versus participants ranked in the Top-10 in the world. The previous three times he had faced Roddick, Lu had lost in straight sets.

The 2 sports book faves at Wimbledon on the men’s side, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal made it to the quarterfinals with straight set wins. Federer defeated Jurgen Melzer while Nadal won in straight sets versus Paul-Henri Mathieu.

Lu saw his results end when he faced Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. The third-seeded Djokovic lost just 12 points in 13 service competitions Wednesday and never faced a break point. Djokovic matched his greatest showing at Wimbledon. He also arrived at the semifinals three years ago. Djokovic will pass Federer in the standings next week.

The champion of that match would then get Tomas Berdych, who won his quarterfinal match versus Roger Federer on Wednesday. It was one more major upset at Wimbledon. Berdych had never progressed past the Round of 16 at a big championship before this year.

It was Rafael Nadal facing Robin Soderling on the other hand of the bracket. This is the first time that Soderling has achieved the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. Nadal eliminated Robin Soderling in four sets, taking that match. Nadal reclaimed the No. 1 position not too long ago. It was a rematch of the final at this year’s French Open, which Nadal additionally won.

It was fourth-seeded Andy Murray facing tenth seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the other quarterfinal game. It’s the third straight year that Murray has made the quarterfinals. He’s playing much better than any person thus far as he is the only player on the men’s side who has not lost a set and his odds at the sports book continue to drop. Murray picked up that match, eliminating Tsonga and setting himself up for a seminfinal showdown versus Nadal.
