The Giants could prove to be a threatening football betting rival, though NFL preseason odds have the Dallas Cowboys as the squad to beat in the NFC East Division contest.

The Philadelphia Eagles are something of a football betting enigma while NFL preseason odds have the Washington Redskins as a long shot in the division.

The Dallas Cowboys look to be peaking at the perfect time as they finished solid in 2009 to complete 11-5 straight up and 9-7 versus the spread and won a playoff game at Cowboys Stadium versus the Philadelphia Eagles before being eliminated from the post season at Minnesota.

Head coach Wade Phillips has taken a more active role with the better and more aggressive defense while Tony Romo is hitting his prime as a quarterback, helping Dallas to create a well balanced squad. Romo replaced Drew Bledsoe as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback during a match versus the giants in the 2006 season. He’s been chosen to the Pro Bowl 3 times and has a career passing rate of 95.6, which rates the 3rd best of all time in the league. During a November 2006 match, he threw 5 touchdown passes in a game, and that’s a track record he shares with Troy Aikman, but trumps Troy Aikman’s track record in matches with 300+ yards passing (24 vs Aikman’s 13). Dallas is competing with more maturity and is a solid choice to win the NFC East, at the minimum.

The New York Giants have had rather a fall since their legendary Super Bowl win over New England in February of 2008 nevertheless they could be a squad that is underrated entering the year. The Giants covered just 6 matches versus the spread and finished just 8-8 straight up in 2009.

Head coach Tom Coughlin had to change coordinators and improvement is expected, the defense was so negative. Eli Manning is a wonderful quarterback but excessive strain was placed on him last year. If the Giants can better diversify the offense and tighten up the defense they could be a valuable asset with the football odds in 2010.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins are associated by a lot more than their division this year as long-term Eagle quarterback Donovan McNabb is now a Redskin.

Before their playoff debacle in Dallas, Philadelphia finished 11-5 straight up and 9-7 versus the spread while Washington hit rock bottom at 4-12 straight up and 6-8-2 versus the spread.

Mike Shanahan returns to coaching after a year off to lead the Redskins after a highly productive run at Denver. But the Redskins still possess the difficulty of having to re-tool in a great number of spots, which is why they’re a post season long shot with the NFL preseason odds. Owner Dan Snyder’s meddling is yet another habitual issue.

The Eagles crash and burn finish and new quarterback do not stimulate confidence with gamblers, even if coach Andy Reid commands respect in Philadelphia.
