The Cleveland Browns are 80-1 long shots in 2010 NFL preseason wagering to win the Super Bowl, but the Browns are anticipated to be better this season.

They are 18.5 to 1 to win the AFC North in NFL preseason lines. On August 14th, Cleveland starts their preseason schedule at Green Bay.

2010 NFL preseason betting on the Browns proceeds in Week 2 when they sponsor the St Louis Rams. The Browns are at Detroit in Week 3 and then sponsor the Chicago Bears in their preseason finale. The preseason will be a very critical time for the Browns as they attempt to change the culture of the squad. President Mike Holmgren has made several modifications that should make the Browns a better squad in 2010.

Cleveland played very poorly last season until the last few weeks. In the final month the Browns won games vs Oakland, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville and Kansas City. That streak saved the job of head coach Eric Mangini. Now he will need to add to that streak.

Mangini, who was previously the head coach for the Jets, faced criticism in his first year of coaching the Browns. Mangini’s hiring was referenced as the worst coaching hire of the past 25 years by Sports Illustrated columnist Joe Posnanski. Thus far he has a 5-11 record in sports betting as head coach of the Browns. New Browns president Mike Holmgren announced in January that he would continue to keep Mangini on for the 2010 season.

Cleveland is turning over the quarterback job to Jake Delhomme and he appears to be better than Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson. The Browns are in danger if Delhomme can not get the job done since they have only Seneca Wallace and rookie Colt McCoy. The Browns will look to run the ball with Jerome Harrison and take the pressure off of Delhomme. Cleveland needs to run the ball well due to the fact they have no receivers. Mohamed Massaquoi directed the squad in catches last season while Josh Cribbs is better as a running back. The Browns do have a quality offensive line, but until they show they can throw the ball, opposing defenses will likely stack up against the run.

The Browns defense is actually not very good. They have a below average defensive line, no name linebackers and an overhyped secondary. The squad did acquire cornerback Sheldon Brown from Philadelphia and they took Joe Harden in the first round so maybe the Browns can be better in the secondary. The Browns do have good special teams directed by Cribbs and kicker Phil Dawson.

In at least 2 and maybe 3 of their preseason matches, NFL preseason lines when you bet on football will likely show the Browns as underdogs, and until Cleveland proves they can win regularly they will continue to receive points.
