NFL wagering odds makers are keeping a close watch on some essential holdouts that might significantly modify the football wagering landscape for the 2010 season. The Jets, Chargers, Patriots, and 49ers and other such football wagering contenders are facing the potential of altering their lineups for the start of the football wagering contest.
The New York Jets had the leading defense in pro football a year ago and they’re one of the favorites to win the AFC title in 2010. Cornerback Darrelle Revis is a huge reason why.
Revis is recognized as the leading defensive back in the game and he’s waiting to be compensated as such. It would be a considerable blow to the Jets and their drive for the Super Bowl if Revis did what he’s threatening, which is to sit out the whole season to get what he wants long term. He decided to renegotiate his deal with the team since both sides had agreed that he outperformed his deal following the 2009 season. He’s currently refusing to return to training camp until he receives a new deal. It is to be seen if the deal reached will be worth the trouble he’s going to since it’s costing him a fortune in fines and he’s also waiving any future guarantees in his current deal, and additionally the 2010 season is not going to count as an accrued season for him.
The San Diego Chargers are yet another leading preseason favorite with the football odds to win the AFC and they were facing a key holdout by linebacker Shawne Merriman.
Merriman and the Chargers at last arrived at a contract right prior to the preseason starter against the Chicago Bears which San Diego picked up 25-10. Merriman was a first round draft pick in 2005 and was being replaced by Larry English.
The Chargers were also having to handle the holdouts of wide receiver Vincent Jackson along with offensive tackle Marcus McNeill.
Jackson is one of the leading receivers in the NFL and had 68 catches for 1167 yards and 9 touchdowns a year ago. Because he’s suspended for the first 3 games of 2010 due to a substance abuse concern, Jackson has a complicated situation. He could sit out til week 10 so he can get another year of service in the direction of free agency.
McNeill is furthermore reported to be considering the week 10 tactic for his holdout. The Chargers have no legitimate backup for McNeill, which gives him some leverage before the beginning match with the NFL lines.
Offensive guard Logan Mankins is holding out on the Patriots. He could wait until week 10 to report also though he was offered $7 million per season. At the end of the 2009 season, he became a restricted free agent and was tendered at the greatest possible level, $3.26 million. The offer was lowered when Mankins did not sign. Since he was not under contract, he didn’t attend the mandatory minicamp.
Defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin of the San Francisco 49ers could sign soon for guaranteed money though he rejected a little over $7 million. The 49ers are a football wagering favorite to win the NFC West Division this year.
