The Carolina Panthers go to the Raymond James Stadium sporting a 3-8 record to face the Bucs who are scarcely doing much greater at 4-7. Both teams will be seeking to turn things around as they have underperformed so far this season.

In writing, this looks to be a pretty even match. Neither side has been making scoring look effortless this season. QBs Josh Freeman and Cam Newton have both thrown for 12 tds, but have furthermore been intercepted 16 and 14 times respectively. This makes it hard to win games.

The running game has performed a little greater with both LeGarrette Blount and DeAngelo Williams making yards. Blount specifically can be a destructive ball-carrier and the Carolina defense must perform considerably much better than in recent weeks to contain him.
But if Tampa looks to have a slight advantage on the ground, the Carolina Panthers are more of a threat out wide. Steve Smith has been excellent for over 1000 yards and 5 Tds, two times as much as Tampa’s Mike Williams along with his 3 visits to the end zone.
Defensively, both sides have appeared less than persuasive in the campaign. As a unit the Carolina Panthers haven’t really been inspiring fear in anybody, even though certainly Charles Johnson has been successful in getting to the resistance qb this year (7.5 sacks per game on average). And for the Bucs, the story is not much greater. Sean Jones and his 66 tackles is the best they have to offer, but this leaves the Tampa defense a long way from the best in the league at the moment.
A tough game to choose then. With both teams struggling to fire on all cylinders, it looks like being the running game of Blount vs the best that Smith can produce out wide. A great first quarter for one side or the other could possibly be enough to master the match.
